In the afternoon, embark on a guided city tour starting at 1:30 PM. Explore six key sites, including the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, and Koricancha (Temple of the Sun of the Incas). The tour concludes around 6:30 PM at the Plaza de Armas, allowing you to enjoy a local dinner at a nearby restaurant. The night’s accommodation is included, but meals aren’t provided.

Recommendations:
To help acclimate to the altitude (Cuzco is at 3,400 meters or 11,000 feet), we recommend drinking coca tea at the hotel. Carry a small backpack with essentials such as your camera, snacks, water, a light jacket, and rainwear. After the tour, take a stroll around Plaza de Armas, where you’ll find local crafts and lively shops. For dinner, indulge in Peru’s renowned cuisine at nearby restaurants or simply relax in the area. Cuzco also has a vibrant nightlife with bars and clubs popular among tourists and locals alike.

Day 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas
The Sacred Valley tour starts at 7:30 AM when we pick you up from the hotel. Spend the day exploring this fertile valley, known for its pleasant climate and rich soil, stretching between Pisac and Ollantaytambo. It’s home to the Quechua people, who have preserved their cultural traditions.

During the tour, you’ll marvel at the Incas’ agricultural expertise through their terracing and irrigation systems.
We will stop at the Pisac village to explore the local market where you can purchase handcrafted goods and jewelry. Afterward, take a two-hour train ride to the town of Aguas Calientes for overnight accommodation.

Leave your belongings securely at the hotel, as the next night’s stay will be in Aguas Calientes, near Machu Picchu. Pack a small bag with essentials for the overnight stay: jacket, insect repellent, sunscreen, sun hat, water bottle, t-shirt, rainwear, and personal items. Wear sturdy shoes for the climbs in Pisac. Enjoy a 2-3 hour guided tour, followed by free time to explore independently or optionally hike Huayna Picchu mountain. Afterward, return to Aguas Calientes by bus for lunch and a relaxing stroll.

In the afternoon, board the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, we’ll transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco, where you will arrive in the evening.

Essential Information: Discover the 5-Day Full Cusco Tour

Arriving in Cusco

Your adventure begins comfortably at Cusco airport, where only domestic flights currently land. For international travelers, a layover in Lima is required before continuing your journey to Cusco. Remember that, even with a connecting flight, picking up and re-checking your luggage in Lima is part of the process. This excitement is just the start of your unforgettable trip through Peru.

Transport to Cusco

The skies or roads lead to Cusco, and we recommend flying for speed and comfort. With several airlines available, LAN is one of the preferred choices, although it’s more of a premium option. Be aware that Cusco’s high-altitude weather can occasionally affect flight schedules. Alternatively, buses offer a scenic and comfortable ride, especially if you’re traveling from nearby cities such as Puno, though it’s a long 20-hour journey from Lima.

Acclimatization

In Cusco, relaxation is the first step. At an altitude of about 3,400 meters (11,155 feet) above sea level, acclimatization is essential to feeling comfortable. Spend a day or two sipping coca tea, a traditional remedy, while enjoying the culture and views through leisurely walks. This way, when you step foot in the fascinating Machu Picchu, your body will be ready, and your spirit will soar.

Transfers In and Out

Our friendly team will be eagerly awaiting your arrival at Cusco. Look for them at the airport holding an SPT Travel & Tours sign, your gateway to a smooth start. We will take you to your hotel and greet you with warm local hospitality. When it’s time to depart, we’ll handle all logistics and pick you up a couple of hours before your flight so you can say a peaceful goodbye to Cusco.

Leave Your Luggage

Enjoy the freedom of traveling light. With your suitcase securely stored at the hotel, head out for adventure with only the essentials in a small backpack: water, snacks, sunscreen, a hat, a camera, and personal medications. This strategy ensures you’re well-prepared for awe-inspiring landscapes and historical sites, making each step hassle-free.

Bring Cash

While cards are widely accepted, having local cash (Peruvian soles and small denominations of U.S. dollars) is perfect for the delightful surprises that await you. ATMs are abundant in major cities, but it’s a good idea to have cash on hand to visit charming and lesser-known places. Change your currency comfortably upon arrival, and let cash enhance your adventure.

Stay Connected

While free wifi is available in many hotels and hostels, the best way to stay connected in remote areas is with a local SIM card or a portable wifi device. These will allow you to share your exciting discoveries anytime, ensuring seamless communication and peace of mind.

Transportation

Your journey through Cusco combines comfort and awe with luxurious bus and panoramic train rides. Both offer stunning views, allowing you to immerse yourself in the breathtaking Andean landscapes from a cozy air-conditioned refuge. This is the way travel should be: effortless and amazing at every step.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

Explore every corner with ease! With plenty of cobblestones and stairs, choosing the right footwear is not just about comfort—it’s key to fully enjoying the history and natural beauty of Cusco. Opt for sturdy shoes to ensure your adventures aren’t hindered by discomfort.

Your Tour Guide

Get personal with the past and present: a fluent English and Spanish-speaking expert guide brimming with stories of the marvelous Inca civilization. Their passion and knowledge bring history to life, fostering an atmosphere where curiosity thrives, and every question becomes a path to discovery.

About the Group

Join a melting pot of adventurers from around the world, all united by the magic of Cusco. Tours are primarily conducted in English, making communication easier and turning every shared laugh, amazement, and new friendship into part of your unique journey. It’s an experience that blends culture and unforgettable memories.

About the Altitude

The vibrant Cusco invites you, but its towering heights demand respect. To fully appreciate its beauty, spend two days acclimating before undertaking any strenuous hikes. Symptoms of altitude sickness can vary, and our professional guides are equipped to assist you with your wellbeing. Hydrate, take it easy, and let the vibrant energy of Cusco revitalize you.

About the Weather

The weather in Cusco is as unpredictable as its landscape, with dry seasons unexpectedly accompanied by rain. Enjoy this adventure by dressing in layers, including waterproof gloves. Bring light and warm clothing for chilly nights to stay comfortable in every type of weather, from sunny, lively trails to foggy mountain vistas.
