The Classic Inca Trail, known in Quechua as Qhapaq Ñan —the «Great Inca Road»— is ranked among the top 10 trekking routes in South America and is #1 in Peru. This ancient network of trails served as the main communication system of the Inca Empire, allowing runners (chasquis) to travel vast distances — from southern Colombia to northern Argentina.

While there are several Inca roads, this is the most iconic trail, leading from the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Along the way, hikers pass through breathtaking Andean landscapes and numerous archaeological sites.

After a scenic 2–2.5 hour drive, we arrive at Km 82 (Piscacucho), the official starting point of the Classic Inca Trail. At the checkpoint, you will present your Inca Trail permit, original passport, and ISIC card (if applicable).

The hike starts with a gentle, 2-hour walk along the Urubamba River to Miskay, where we stop for a freshly prepared lunch while enjoying the surrounding flora and mountain scenery. After lunch, we continue for another 2 hours on gradual uphill terrain to Wayllabamba (3,000 m), our first campsite. The views here are breathtaking, and you’ll feel the spiritual energy of the Andes.

From the pass, we descend for 2 hours into the valley of Pacaymayu (3,600 m), where our second campsite is located. We enjoy lunch upon arrival after a total of around 7 hours of trekking. Dinner is served at 18:30, followed by a cold but peaceful night.

We then descend to Sayacmarca (3,580 m), an impressive site with terraces and narrow stone paths.

We continue to Chakicocha (3,600 m) for lunch, surrounded by incredible mountain scenery. The afternoon trek takes us through cloud forest to Phuyupatamarca (3,600 m), the “Town Above the Clouds,” our last archaeological stop of the day. From there, it’s a gentle 2-hour descent to Wiñayhuayna (2,600 m), our final campsite. In the evening, we enjoy a farewell buffet prepared by our chef and say goodbye to the porters.
