Storing Large Luggage During the Trek

Hitting the trail? Here’s how to manage your gear: bring a practical 30-liter daypack for your trek while your larger suitcase stays safely stored at your Cusco hotel. Keep in mind that there are luggage restrictions for train travel. Bags heading to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu) must fit in the cabin. No worries—we handle the luggage logistics, so your belongings stay safe and your mind remains free to enjoy every step of your thrilling journey.

Altitude Considerations

Trekking at high altitude—like in Cusco—sharpens your senses and intensifies your adventure. Altitude sickness is natural and can feel like flu symptoms. But don’t let that stop you! Start slowly, stay hydrated, and sip the local remedy: coca tea. Want extra prevention? Your doctor may recommend medications such as acetazolamide.

Remember: the key is gradual acclimatization, mixed with curiosity and patience. With the right prep and time, you’ll be ascending those trails with unmatched stamina and joy.

Weather Preparation

Cusco’s weather moves to its own rhythm, offering a climate as varied and dynamic as the landscape itself. Adaptability is key. From surprise showers in the dry season (April–October) to intense sun peeking through December skies—be ready for anything. Keep your gear versatile: rain jackets, pants, ponchos, and gloves will be your trusty companions.

The Andean microclimates invite you to layer up, ensuring comfort during chilly nights and unpredictable days. Trust us—trekking to Choquequirao feels like crossing multiple seasons in one hike!

Travel Insurance

Embarking on such an adventurous trip calls for travel insurance. Before departure, secure this essential safety net to protect against the unexpected. Insurance can cover everything from trip cancellations to medical issues and luggage mishaps—giving you peace of mind to fully embrace Peru’s adventurous spirit.
